Elaine F. Nobbe, 57, Greensburg, died Monday, May 13, 2013, at Decatur County Memorial Hospital.
Born March 21, 1956, in Batesville, she was the daughter of Janette (Dierckman) and William Munchel. She married Arthur Nobbe Oct. 25, 1975, at Holy Family Catholic Church, Oldenburg.
Elaine worked as a teacher’s aide for 10 years at North Decatur Elementary School and the last 15 with Wal-Mart in the inventory department.
The St. Maurice Homemakers Club president and former 4-H leader was a member of St. Maurice Catholic Church and the St. Maurice Parish Council of Catholic Women.
Elaine kept busy with her many interests. She liked flowers and spending time in her flower beds. She also gardened and canned what she grew. An avid reader, her preferences were novels by Nora Roberts and Beverly Lewis. She was an accomplished quilter and, according to her family, fond of jewelry, earrings in particular.
When she watched TV, favorites were “Grey’s Anatomy,” “Dancing With the Stars,” “NCIS” and “The Biggest Loser.” Elaine liked to travel and the whole family would often vacation together with a trip to Cancun unanimously agreed as one of their favorites.
Her family talked about what a wonderful cook she was and how she was always willing to try new recipes. While they indicated most everything she made was delicious, the Peach French Toast apparently didn’t work out so well. No one teased her about her deviled eggs, though. They were always requested at get-togethers and disappeared fast.
A couple of traits her family admired were never hearing her complain and that she was always willing to do for others. Elaine especially enjoyed working with children as a teacher’s aide and assisting with 4-H for so many years. She also would annually make fruit baskets to be given to the church’s elderly. But for all the hobbies and interests she enjoyed, being with family was her true passion and she loved to dote on the grandchildren.
Elaine is survived by her husband, Art; daughters Amy Nobbe, Dayton, Ind., and Sarah Nobbe, Oldenburg; sons Robert, Greensburg, and Todd and Aaron, Batesville; her mother, Batesville; sister Charlene Whittaker, Batesville; brothers Vernon Munchel, Milroy, and Darrell Munchel, Bargersville; and three grandchildren.
In addition to her father, she was also preceded in death by two grandchildren.
Visitation is Thursday, May 16, from 4-8 p.m. at Weigel Funeral Home. Funeral services are at 10 a.m. Friday, May 17, at St. Maurice Church, St. Maurice, with the Rev. Karl Pikus officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family requests memorials to the Phi Beta Psi Sorority Cancer Research Fund.
