---- — Don Ewing Porter, 92, of Columbus, passed away Monday, Jan. 13, 2014 at Four Seasons Health Care Center in Columbus.

He was born March 25, 1921 in Hartsville, the son of Dr. E. A. and Hester M. (Alley) Porter.

Mr. Porter was a past resident of Hartsville, Westport, Pittsfield, Massachusetts, Ft. Wayne, Danville, Illinois, Schenectady, New York, Atlanta, Georgia and Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

He had graduated from Westport High School in 1939 and received his Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from Purdue University in 1947. He retired from the General Electric Company and was a member of the Fairlawn Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed coin collecting and growing roses.

He was a veteran having served in the U.S. Navy for four years.

He married Coreta Cunningham at the Westport Baptist Church June 29, 1947 and she survives along with his daughters, Deborah (John) Matoba of Milwaukee, Wis. and Vickie (Charles) Pein of Columbus; his sons, James Addison Porter and Barry Alexander Porter both of Columbus; his grandchildren, Stephanie Marie Carr of Houston, Texas, J. Christopher (Christina) Bruer of Fairfield, Ohio, J. Matthew (Rebecca) Rayl of Leesburg, Fla., Jillian D. Mishler of Columbus, Daniel E. Porter of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., David, Nicholas and Mary Matoba of Shorewood, Wis., Marybeth (Mark) Hopkins of Box Springs, Ga., Joseph (Karen) Rayl of Groveland, Fla. and Melissa (Eric) Zeitland of Boca Raton, Fla.; his great-grandchildren, David (Carol) Hopkins, Ashley Hopkins, Justin and Joshua Rayl, Zoe, Avery and Daisy Zeitland, J.T., Aidan and Calista Carr, Emily, Catherine and Lance Bruer, Kaden Mishler, Ethan Rayl and Claire Rayl and Great Great Grandchild, Evelyn Hopkins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters, Lucille (Porter) Gaynor, Marigail (Porter), Bentzen and Gene S.(Porter) Faulkner; his brothers, Jonathan Porter, Dr. Robert Porter, Tom Porter and David Porter and his grandson, Michael David Porter.

Funeral services begin at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 18, at Westport Baptist Church with visitation from noon until time of service.

Rev. David A. Scaggs and Pastor Anne Marshall will be officiating.

Burial will follow at the Union Baptist Cemetery with military graveside rites. Memorial contributions may be made through the funeral home to the Alzheimer’s Association or Westport Baptist Church Building Fund.
