Greensburg — Virginia C. Shrader, 89, of New Castle passed away Friday, Feb. 22, 2013 at Miller’s Merry Manor Nursing Home in Rushville.

She was born Aug. 21, 1923 in Kentucky and was a daughter of the late John and Clara (Douglas) Burkhead.

She retired from the U.S. Shoe Factory in Osgood in 1988, and was also employed at the Foster’s Grandparent program for the last 10 years.

She loved quilting and embroidering and doing her word search puzzles. She cherished spending time with the children at Cradles and spending time with her family. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren.

She is survived by two sons: Bobbie (Cindy) Shrader of Greensburg, and Ray (Stephanie) of Columbus; one daughter, Fay Fairchild of New Castle; seven grandchildren: Robert (Andrea) Shrader, Mike (Katie) Shrader, Greg (Kris) Bonfer, Charlene (James) Hurley, Travis (Allison), Tyler (Lacey), and Catie (Shane) Campbell; five great-grandchildren: Dani McDonald, Nicholas Shrader, Abby Shrader, Leana Shrader, Madison Shrader, Gavin Shrader, and soon to be born, Wyatt Shrader; one great-great-grandson, Gabriel Castletine; two sisters: Lillian Cruser of Shelbyville, and Gerry Fancher of Louisville, Ky. Several nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers: Clarence Burkhead, Raymond Burkhead, and Robert Burkhead; one sister, Nancy Burkhead; one daughter, Wilma (Sissy) Bonfer; and two sons-in-law: Herman Bonfer and Jim Fairchild.

Funeral Services begin at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 28 at the Haw Creek Baptist Church in Hope, Pastor Bobby Slagle officiating.

Burial follows at Haw Creek Cemetery.

Friends and family may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Main & Davis Funeral Home, Broad Street Chapel, in New Castle and two hours prior to the service Thursday at the church.
