Mrs. Eldena E. Hoene, 84

Mrs. Eldena E. Hoene, 84, of Seymour passed away Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2013, at Covered Bridge Health Campus, Seymour, surrounded by her family.
She was born Sept. 8, 1929, at home in Jackson County, where she lived her entire life. She was the daughter of George H. and Anna K. (Koop) Otte who both preceded her in death.
After graduating Cortland High School Class of 1947, she married Herbert Paul Hoene, June 15, 1952, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Borchers. Mr. Hoene passed away Oct. 21, 2001.
Eldena was baptized, confirmed and was a lifelong member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Borchers, where she also taught Sunday School. She was a homemaker and loved working on the farm with her husband and family. She had a love for reading and a great passion for genealogy. Eldena enjoyed researching the history of not only her own family, but the family history of her friends and the history of her church. This search into the past provided her the opportunity to visit many interesting cemeteries to gather information.
She is survived by her daughter: Joyce (Gary) Mellencamp; grandchildren: Kristen (Frank) Gilbert, Matthew Mellencamp; daughter: Carol (Alfred) Jones; step-grandchild: Gayal Jones; daughter: Linda (Robert) Barich; grandchildren: Michael Barich and Matthew Barich; daughter: Jane (Tom) Goecker; step-grandchild: Brandon Goecker; and great grandchild Lydia Gilbert.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother: Francis H. Otte; sisters: Mabel Herkamp, LaVerne Herkamp; and grandson: Mark N. Mellencamp.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Nov. 2, 2013, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Borchers, with Pastor Stephen Wood officiating.
Burial will take place at St. Paul Lutheran Church Cemetery, Borchers.
Friends may call at Voss Chapel on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. and on Saturday at the church after 9 a.m.
