---- — Marcella “Betty” E. Powers, 80, of Columbus, passed away Monday, Oct. 24, 2013, at her home.
Betty was born Oct. 30, 1932 in Batesville, the daughter of Martin L. and Thelma M. (Shoopman) Alexander.
She married George L. Powers Jan. 21, 1950 in Greensburg, and he preceded her in death Aug. 4, 1984.
Betty had been employed by the Bartholomew County School Corporation as a custodian at Rock Creek School for 31 years. She was a member of Garden City Church of Christ.
Betty is survived by her daughter Jean (Jerry) Abner; son Tom (fiancé Verna Mize) Powers, all of Columbus; sister-in-law Margaret (Gene) Dance, Greensburg; brother-in-law Gerald (Phyllis) Powers, Shelbyville; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers Dave and Russell Wagner, and stepbrother Woody Alexander.
Funeral services begin at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 17, at Myers-Reed Chapel, 25th Street, in Columbus. Virgil Clotfelter will officiate.
Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 16 and one hour prior to the funeral Thursday.
Burial in Kingston Cemetery, north of Greensburg.
