Greensburg Daily News
---- — Oma Cornett, 91, of New Point passed away Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2013, at Margaret Mary Health in Batesville.
Born Feb. 4, 1922 in Letcher County, Ky., she was the daughter of Cullen and Polly Ann (Sexton) Thomas. She married Preston Cornett Jan. 17, 1940 in Letcher County, Ky. and he preceded her in death on Dec. 27, 1993.
“Granny,” as she was lovingly called by almost everyone who knew her, loved her garden, her flowers, animals, the birds she fed daily, her church family, lost children, and anything else that came through her yard or front door.
Over the years, she traveled, read, crocheted, embroidered, worked puzzles and canned vegetables from her extensive garden. Her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren meant the world to her, and she attended as many of their life events as possible.
She did her best to instill in her family; love, good manners, a good education, and the value of hard work. She was the glue that held her family together for so many years, and she will be sorely missed.
She is survived by her children Randolph Cornett of New Point, Gary Wayne (Delores) Cornett of Greensburg; Janice Faye (Don) Ufferman of North Fort Myers, Fla.; Lindell “Sam” (Cindy) Cornett of Batesville; Elizabeth Ann (Fred) Krieger of Greensburg; Patricia Kay (Jim) Muckerheide of New Point;
She will also be missed by her 14 grandchildren and four step-grandchildren, along with many great-grandchildren and numerous great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her step children Vernon Cornett and Marjorie Ranger; sisters Edna Trent and Glessa Maggard; and brothers Chester, Culvert and Bennie Thomas.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, at Meyers Funeral Home, 1150 State Road 46 E, Batesville, IN 47006.
