---- — Irene L. Burnett, 85, of Fairland, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2013, at Morristown Manor.
Irene was born Jan. 15, 1928 in Indianapolis, the daughter of Walter and Sophia (Mix) Lutz.
She married Charles E. Burnett July 4, 1946, and he preceded her in death Aug. 1, 1993.
Irene had lived in the Shelby County area her entire life. She had been a production worker for RCA in Indianapolis for several years, retiring in 1982. She was a 1946 graduate of Arsenal Tech High School.
Irene enjoyed traveling and loved spending time with her family and grandchildren.
She is survived by four sons: Ronald Burnett of El Paso, Texas; Sam (Trina) Burnett of Fairland; Charles (Annette) Burnett of Fairland and Jerry (Kelli) Burnett of Shelbyville; three daughters: Jean (Gary) Johnson of St. Omer, Judy (Mike) Kuhn of Versailles and Barbara Ailes (friend Bruce Powers) of St. Omer; 20 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, son Tony Burnett, two brothers and one sister.
Funeral services begin at noon Monday, Oct. 21, at Glenn E. George and Son Funeral Home, Shelbyville.
Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 20, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Star Baptist Cemetery in Decatur County.
Memorials may be made to St. Francis Hospice in care of the funeral home.
