Gerald “Jerry” Buchanan, 66

Greensburg — Gerald “Jerry” Buchanan, 66, of Westport, passed away Friday, Dec. 14, 2012 at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.

He was born Oct. 23, 1946 in Greensburg, the son of Leonard Dale and Minnie Maxine (Gardner) Buchanan. He had been a lifelong resident of Decatur County.

He graduated from Jackson Township High School in 1964 and received an Associates Degree with Honors from Ivy Tech.

He was employed at Valeo in Greensburg and had worked at BCA for 16 years.

Jerry was a member of the Indiana Archaeological Society and Assistant Superintendent of the Decatur County 4-H Rabbit Club. He was a veteran having served with the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Era. He enjoyed fishing and hunting. He also enjoyed hunting arrowheads, ginseng and mushrooms. Jerry enjoyed playing cards and being with his grandchildren.

He married Carol Sue Reese in Tipton June 13, 1967 and she survives, along with his daughters, Kelly (Phil) Boncutter and Cheryl (Chris) Johnson both of Greensburg; his son, Chris (Emelie) Buchanan of Westport; his sisters, Martha (Chuck) Bailey of Greenwood, Wanda (Paul) Weston of Greensburg and Sharon (David) Henson of New Palestine; his brothers, David (Donna) Buchanan and Ron (Donni) Buchanan of Westport; Steve (Lisa) Buchanan of Greenfield, Neil (Trish) Buchanan of Greensburg and Andy (Kathy) Buchanan of Indianapolis; his grandchildren, Sydney Johnson, Sierra Johnson, Olivia Johnson, Jarred Boncutter, Morgan Boncutter, John Baldwin and Kelsey Buchanan.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Richard Buchanan and a grandson, Cameron Jacob Buchanan.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 18, at Bass & Gasper Funeral Home, Rev. Perry Cook officiating.

Burial will follow at the Mt. Aerie Cemetery with military graveside service.

A time of visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 17 at Bass & Gasper Funeral Home.
