The Night Club signed up to guard the displays at the fair July 16. All are invited to Women Walk the World on April 29 at Mill Race park in Columbus starting at 10 a.m. The next meeting will be held at Betty Lecher’s with Liz Hally as co-hostess at 7 p.m. May 7.

Linger Awhile Extension

The Linger Awhile Extension Homemakers met for their monthly meeting at the home of Diann Reisman at 7 p.m. April 9.

The meeting was opened with all reciting the Club Creed and Pledge to the American Flag. For Devotions Diann read “Help Yourself to Happiness” by Helen Steiner Rice. Theresa Ripperger gave the Thought of the Month. Roll Call found 7 members present answering with their favorite TV commercial. All joined in singing the Song of the Month, “This little Light of Mine.” Paulette Duerstock read the minutes of the March meeting and Diann gave the Treasurer’s report.

Three of our members plan to attend the Leader Lesson Bazaar May 8 at the Jennings County Library. Volunteer service hours were recorded and club dues were collected for 2014.

Election of Officers followed with these results: President, Paulette Duerstock; Vice-president, Irene Tebbe; Secretary, Diann Reisman; Treasurer, Alberta McQueen; Health & Safety, Melly Allgeier; and Song Leaders, Teresa Horan and Rosemary Schroeder.

For Health & Safety Irene Tebbe read an article, “Don’t Fry Day.” The National Council on Skin Cancer Prevention urges everyone to take care of their skin when outdoors and has designated the Friday before Memorial Day as “ Don’t Fry Day” to remind everyone to protect their skin and children’s skin as well.

Skin cancer is the most common cancer in the U.S. The good news is that it is simple to protect your skin and reduce your risk of getting skin cancer. “ Slip on a shirt, slop on broad-spectrum sunscreen of SPF 30 or higher, slap on a wide-brimmed hat, and wrap on UV blocking sunglasses.” It is especially important to protect children from harmful effects of the sun because sunburns during childhood increase the risk of getting skin cancer later in life.
