Smyrna Guys and Gals 4-H Club

The April 8 meeting of the Smyrna Guys and Gals 4-H Club was called to order by President Emma Spreckelson at 7 p.m. at St. John’s Smyrna Lutheran Church.

Those in attendance were Alli Norton, Emma, Jane and Claire Spreckelson, Blaine and Kaden Schroeder and Alan Lecher. The pledge to the American flag was led by Alan Lecher and the pledge to the 4-H flag was led by Blaine Schroeder.

Roll call was answered by “your favorite candy.” Last meeting’s minutes were read by club member Alli Norton and approved by the club.

The treasurer’s report was given by club leader Katie Spreckelson. New business included updates found in this month’s Decatur County Extension Newsletter.

A thank you note was signed by all club members for the Marion Township Volunteer Fire Department and their willingness to speak to the club last month. Club leader Katie approached the Smyrna church members about the possibility of helping again this year at the ice cream social.

They will get back with her when and if they decide to plan the social. The club held a discussion about possible field trips with several good ideas shared. All were asked to bring ideas to the next meeting. There was no old business. The meeting continued with Health & Safety given by Alli Norton titled, “Be a Fit Kid.” Devotions were provided by Kaden Schroeder. Jane Spreckelson reported on several Animal Fun Facts. Claire Spreckelson gave a Career Focus report on a masseuse.

Demonstrations were given by Jane Spreckelson on How to Make a Smoothie, Claire Spreckelson on How to Freeze Homemade Applesauce and Emma Spreckelson on Dairy Goat Products and Uses. Jane shared a bit of the smoothie with all club members. The meeting was then adjourned and leader Katie led the group in recreation by having all members unwrap and eat a Hershey’s kiss, with gloves on, as two teams. The members enjoyed the camaraderie. Refreshments were provided by Alli Norton.
