Club Chatter Night Club and St. Maurice Club

Greensburg — The Night Club and the St. Maurice Club met at the Greensburg Country Club Aug. 2 to plan and organize the WoMen Just Want to Have Fun program.  After McCamment's served a delicious meal, the planning and organizing took place. Presidents Linda Weigel and Rita Hellmich conducted the meeting.

The WoMen Just Want to Have Fun program begins around 9 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 27.

Presently, it will be held at the Decatur County Extension Office in the meeting room. Talented craftpersons will present a variety of crafts and new ideas.  Also, there will be an optional lunch of lasagna, salad and ice cream for $6. Members from both clubs enjoyed visiting and planning this Decatur County Extension Homemakers' program together.

In addition, the Night Club held a very short business meeting. Program books were filled out, and the lessons were chosen. Everyone discussed the exhibits  they brought to the 4-H Fair.

The Sept. 5 meeting will be held at 7 p.m. at Bessie Ploeger's home with Catherine Mauer co-hosting. Bessie will give the lessons ÒSave Some Green by Going GreenÓ and ÒSubstitute This For That.Ó

Clinton Extension Homemakers

The Clinton Extension Homemakers met Aug. 7 at the home of Marilyn Davis.

Co-hostess Katie Spreckelson had made delicious blueberry cream cheese muffins which were served with corn chips, sugared almonds, lemonade and raspberry lemonade. Following that, we were entertained by Marilyn Jackson disguised as ÒMrs. VarvelÓ in a comical skit about womanhood. Connie Fruchtnicht opened the meeting by leading the Pledge of Allegiance and then the club creed.

For devotions, Katie read an article from Kathryn Marshall, ÒDecisions can take you out of God's will, but never his reach.Ó Connie read the thought, ÒLife affords o greater responsibility, no greater privilege, than the raising of the next generation.Ó Maxine Hayes led in singing, ÒI'm Looking Over A 4-Leaf clover.Ó

Happy Birthday was sung for Maxine and a guest, Jane Spreckelson. Seventeen members answered roll call by telling what they enjoyed or disliked about the county fair. Most agreed that the new free stage was a great addition. Minutes were approved as read. Dorothy Mahan gave the treasurer's report.

For cultural arts, Connie read an article, ÒLearning to read with Dick and Jane.Ó Marilyn Davis thanked those who helped with the pie eating contest. The Decatur County Community School team was the winner again. From the proceeds of the pie contest and food sales, $500 was awarded to each hospice and new Directions. From the birthday calls on Radio WTRE, $300 was awarded to New Directions.

Our club has 96 entries for the open class and 8 entries in the apple contest. Three members assisted in sewing or stuffing puppy pillows and a total of 504 were finished.

Connie reported attending the council meeting. And stated the project entries were up 100 from last year.

ÒEnjoying Our HeritageÓ is the theme for Fall Retreat at camp Higher Ground Sept. 19 through 20. Several members plan to attend. It was voted to donate $10 to purchase a ticket for the 100th anniversary quilt. Members are asked to save their change and bring it to the Spring district meeting for the ÒCancer Endowment Fund.Ó

Deb Greive gave the lesson, ÒSubstitute This for That.Ó Door prize winners were Jessie Hampton, Ruth Flack and Marilyn Jackson. Next meeting is Sept. 4 at 6 p.m. at the Marilyn Jackson home, picnic provided. Club prayer was sung to close the meeting.
