National Active and Retired Federal Employees (NARFE)

Chapter 0813 of the National Active and Retired Federal Employees met Dec. 17, 2013.

With the fire at the Blue Bird Restaurant in Morristown on Sunday evening, Dec 15, the chapter’s Christmas Party was going to be cancelled for 2013, but due to phone calls on Monday, Dec. 16 by Eva Vanatta, the chapters’ membership committee chairlady, the Rushville Elks Club came to our rescue and lined us up with a meeting room and a choice of one of three entries meal. A big shout out for the Elks Club staff to provide this on less than one day notice, a big thank you to the Rushville Elks Club.

The meeting was opened by President Eva Stone welcoming those present and followed with Kay Hineman leading the group with the Pledge of Allegiance and the invocation. Chapter business meeting had the Secretary’s minutes and Treasurer’s report and other committee reports given. Chapter officers for 2014 were sworn in by Chapter President Eva Stone. Birthdays for December were Anne Clapp, Doris Harris and Jack Fix, all from Shelbyville. Attendance prize was won by Steve Woolman from Shelbyville.

After the brief business meeting, chapter members were treated to a free lunch at the Rushville Elks Club with the chapter picking up the tab (one of the perks of attending the December meeting). After the lunch, the chapter had its annual Christmas “Dirty Bingo” party. Paul Rosfeld of Rushville ably ran our version of “Dirty Bingo” which has the members bringing one gift and the winners of the games choosing one wrapped gift or stealing somebody else’s gift. If you missed the meeting, you missed out on a great “free” lunch and lots of fun.

The next meeting will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 21 at Ponderosa Steakhouse in Greensburg with optional lunch following the meeting.

If you are a retired federal employee (retired civilian or retired military and spouses) join us at our next meeting or call Eva Vanatta at 765-629-2720 for further information.
