INDIANAPOLIS — Students in 525 Indiana schools raised $635,000 during the 2012-13 school year to fund life-saving blood cancer research and provide help and hope to thousands of patients and their families through The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Pennies for Patients program.
On Thursday, May 16, NFL veteran Gary Brackett will visit Zionsville Community High School in Zionsville and St. Mary’s School in Greensburg to recognize the students for their fundraising efforts. The schools were two of the top fundraising schools in Indiana this year (the top fundraiser overall and the top fundraiser per capita).
This is the eighth year Brackett has supported Pennies for Patients, becoming involved with LLS after losing his brother to leukemia in 2005. Pacers center Roy Hibbert has joined Brackett in support of Pennies for Patients this year. Hibbert will provide autographed basketballs, jerseys and posters to the winning schools as a sign of his appreciation as he is unable to make an appearance due to the Pacers’ playoff schedule.
