SDES staff enjoy a “fountain of thanks”

Greensburg — In the culmination of staff appreciation week, South Decatur Elementary School (SDES) teachers and staff were treated to a chocolate fountain by principal Kara Holdsworth.

During the week, the staff of SDES enjoyed a different show of appreciation each day.

Monday, Principal Holdsworth provided breakfast casseroles and muffins for all the teachers and staff of the school. Tuesday, Holdsworth provided assorted candy treats for the SDES staff. On Wednesday, a PTO sponsored luncheon of salads and deserts catered by Stones of Millhousen took place.

For Thursday's celebration, all employees were given a “free jeans day,” meaning they were allowed to wear jeans instead of office attire. In addition, Thursday was Nurse Appreciation Day and SDES nurse Holly Green was treated to thank yous throughout the day.

When Friday finally rolled around, teachers and staff enjoyed a delicious chocolate fountain with an assortment of fresh fruit and angel food cake provided by Holdsworth.

Holdsworth reported that there is a general fund to be used for events like appreciation week and things to boost staff morale. The fund was used to make the gifts for the SDES staff, in addition to items provided personally by Holdsworth.

Principal Holdsworth said she believes that when it comes to appreciation, every member of the staff should be considered a teacher and shown the proper thanks for all they do. She went on to say that every teacher and staff member at the school goes far above and beyond for the students. A single week doesn’t do them justice compared to all they do for the students, Holdsworth said.

It takes a significant amount of work and patience to keep a school running smoothly and it's not a small stretch to say that parents of the students at SDES are grateful for all the teachers and staff do as they share their knowledge with the young minds passing through the halls.
