Batesville scored four runs in the fourth and three more the next
three innings to defeat North Decatur on Senior Night for the
Chargers.
The Bulldogs got four hits and an error in the first inning sending
eight batters to the plate to take the lead.
Pitcher Devin Moorman’s power pitching sent the Chargers bats
back to the dugout in 1-2-3 fashion in three of the innings. They got
two of the runs back in the second inning when Sarah Wallpe laced
a single up the middle and Emily Holtkamp followed with a double
along the left field line. Blair Land drew a walk and following a strike
out, a ground ball to short got Land at second but the throw to first
eluded the first baseman allowing Holtkamp to score as well.
Batesville scored three back in the second inning with a home run
by Amy Wuestefeld, a hit battter, stolen base, a throwing error
and a sacrifice fly and a triple with a fielding error on the throw into
the infield.
The Bulldogs got three runs in their next at bat without getting the
ball out of the infield. A walk, an error, an infield single, another error
and an infield out netted three runs an effectively took the Chargers
out if the game.
North Decatur did get a run in the fifth on a walk, an infield out
and an error but it could not reduce the Bulldog’s 11-run lead.
