When an athlete is asked to step in to replace a fallen comrade for a big game, that's big pressure. When he is asked to replace a player who has lost but two matches the whole season, it's even bigger.

But what was asked of Kurt Schneider had extra weight; to do it on the first day of the sectional tournament at Madison Shawe Memorial High School. What he did was sweep three matches to aid Greensburg's return to the Seymour regional tournament

For not only answering the call, but winning three matches in the week, Kurt Schneider is this week's Male Athlete of the Week.

The accolades for Greensburg's No. 1 and No. 2 golfers kept coming last Friday and Saturday at the state golf tournament held at the Legends of Golf in Franklin. Both girls qualified to advance as individuals after the Lady Pirates' 14th place finish at state.

By qualifying to advance, Greensburg became the only school in the state to have more than one golfer in the individual competition at the tournament. Not only did they qualify, but of all the golfers in the state who started sectional play on Sept. 20, these teammates finished 13th and 15th in the state. In addition, Schiedler was named All-State in golf for the second year in a row.

For these feats, the Daily News proudly honors Megan Gindling and Brianna Schiedler as co-Girls' Athletes of the Week.
