The South Decatur varsity volleyball team wrapped up its season at Batesville Tuesday, falling to the hosts in three games, 25-6, 25-9, 25-15.
“They were the toughest team we have played all season.” said head coach Robyn Owens of the Bulldogs.
Owens paid a tribute to the six seniors for the final regular season match Monday. They include Nicole Dougherty, Alexis Watts, Amber Knapp, Kelsey Snyder, Emily Nobbe and Briana Palmer.
Owens said she baked cookies to commemorate South’s final match.
“They are a special group who I have had the pleasure of coaching in junior high, and have moved up with them to the varsity level,” said Owens of the seniors. “They are very well liked and respected by the underclassmen. They have made all players feel important and part of the team this year,” she added. “They all have stepped up to lead the team in one way or another. They have all had great attitudes and we have had no drama this year. We are all going to miss them.”
The Cougars drew a bye in the first round of the sectional tournament. South will face the winner of the Oldenburg vs. Madison Shawe match Saturday at 12:30 p.m. at Rising Sun.
