Lady Chargers host Lady Pirates to renew rivalry

Greensburg — The Greensburg girls and North Decatur girls basketball teams will renew the Tree City rivalry Friday night. North’s Lady Chargers (7-3) will host Greensburg’s Lady Pirates (3-9).

The teams have split the past 10 games, with each team winning five.

Greensburg head coach Mike Miller is 5-4 against North Decatur, while North head coach Brad Bryant is 1-2 against Greensburg.

The Lady Pirates defeated North 42-39 last season. The Lady Chargers’ last win over Greensburg, two seasons ago, was a 54-35 score.

The Lady Chargers have two seniors averaging in double digits. Anna Wallpe averages 15.4 per game (154 points on the season), while Alison Wallpe averages 10.3 (103 points). Senior Andrea Volk averages 6.7 per game (67). Sophomore guard Mary Hughes averages 7.1, but 8.67 in the past three games.

For Greensburg, junior guard Abbey Denton leads the Pirates with 10.17 points (122 for the season). Junior Jessica Banaschak scores 7.33 per game (102), but is averaging 9.5 the past four games. Sophomore Keauna Schultz has stepped up her post game, averaging seven points in the past three games (4.8 on the season).
