St. Leon — The Greensburg boys basketball team beat East Central 54-38 Friday to clinch the outright Eastern Indiana Athletic Conference championship.
The Pirates finish the regular season with a 21-1 record and 7-0 in the EIAC. The crown represents the third straight for the Pirates, who have lost just one conference game in the past three seasons.
Batesville (17-3) finishes in second place with a 6-1 EIAC record, and East Central third.
Greensburg led 15-6 after the first quarter and carried a 31-17 lead into halftime. The Trojans (9-13 overall, 4-3 in EIAC) outscored the visitors 11-9 in the third quarter, but the Pirates widened the game margin with a 14-10 edge in the fourth.
Senior Sean Sellers led the Pirates with 17 points. Sellers shot 3-for-3 from the foul line and added five rebounds. Junior Ryan Welage followed 14 points, while senior Bryant McIntosh scored 12. Senior Macy Holdsworth added seven and senior Tom Lawrence chipped in two.
Greensburg shot 12-for-14 from the foul line, while East Central shot 5-for-8.
Hunter Kammer led East Central with 10 points. Chad Spencer added nine, while Matt Schuman scored eight.
The Greensburg junior varsity team beat East Central 49-36 to clinch its own EIAC title. The JV Pirates finish 18-1 on the season. Greensburg led 10-5 at the first stop and 24-22 at the half. The Pirates pulled away in the third quarter and led 36-29 after the third stop, then outscored the Trojans 13-7 in the fourth quarter.
Drew Foster and Peyton Buening each scored 11 points. Chandler Deaton scored 9 and Kevin Beaver added 6. Alex Pokrzywinski scored 5, Tommy Carey added 4 and Keegan McCullough chipped in 3.
