---- — The Greensburg girls basketball team posted a quality win over visiting Waldron Tuesday, defeating the Mohawks 61-42.
The score was tied at 13-all after the first stop, until the Pirates compiled a 17-3 run in the second quarter to lead 30-16 at the half.
Greensburg (3-8) stayed tough on defense and outscored Waldron 20-16 in the third quarter, then 11-7 in the fourth.
Greensburg head coach Mike Miller applauded his team’s defensive effort, forcing 30 Waldron turnovers.
“Tonight was a good overall effort,” said Miller. “We did a good job of keeping the tempo and pushing the ball. We competed and played hard.”
Jessica Banaschak led all scorers with 17 points, a season-high, and added nine rebounds. Senior Joanna Redelman added a season-high 13 points with four rebounds. Junior Abbey Denton added nine points, while Keauna Schultz tallied a career-high seven.
“She’s had two games in a row that she’s had strong post moves,” said Miller of Schultz.
Taylor McIntosh followed with four, while Chelsea Hersley and Allie Geis each scored two. Megan Schmidt chipped in a free throw.
Greensburg shot 15-for-31 from the line. The Lady Pirates forced 30 turnovers.
The junior varsity Pirates won 34-17 over Waldron. Sydney Meyer led Greensburg with 15 points. Kate Porter added seven points on two 3-pointers, and Samantha Cain added six. Chipping in two apiece were Savannah Harrison, Claire Fleetwood and Allie Geis.
The JV Pirates shot 9-for-16 from the foul line.
