North girls ground visiting Jets

The North Decatur girls basketball team improved to 6-3 overall, defeating Waldron 59-31 Thursday night at home.

The uplifting victory also signaled the fourth win in the past five games for the Lady Chargers.

North led 12-8 after the first quarter, and 23-15 at the half. The Chargers went ahead by double digits in the second quarter when senior Andrea Volk delivered a steal to the hoop, 22-11.

Eight different players, including all six seniors, scored in the third quarter to give North a 42-22 lead at the third stop.

Leading North in scoring was Volk with 15 points, including a trio of 3-pointers. Senior Ali Wallpe followed with 10, including 2-for-2 from the line. Senior Anna Wallpe (3-for-4 FT’s) scored nine, and Sam Krieger (3-for-4) scored seven. Senior Emma Geis followed with six. Senior Abby Lamb and freshman Chelsea Hitchcock each added three on triples. Chipping in two each were senior Myra Steele, Olivia Siefert and Mary Hughes (2-for-2).

In the 28-22 JV win over Waldron, Morgan McKinney led the Chargers with 10 points. Chelsea Hitchcock scored five, including a 3-pointer. Ashlin Weintraut and Olivia Siefert (4-for-4 FT’s) each scored four. Morgan Nobbe and Addy Osting each scored two, while Meredith Fogle chipped in one.

In Tuesday’s 57-39 loss to Jac-Cen-Del, Mary Hughes led the Chargers with 12 points. She shot 6-for-8 from the foul line and made a pair of triples. Senior Ali Wallpe scored nine points. Senior Anna Wallpe and freshman Chelsea Hitchcock scored seven points apiece. Hitchcock made two triples. Seniors Andrea Volk (2-for-2 FT’s) and Abby Lamb added two apiece.

North shot 9-for-11 from the stripe.

The JV Chargers beat JCD 28-25. Chelsea Hitchcock led North with 13 points. She shot 6-for-7 from the foul line and added a triple. Morgan Nobbe followed with five, including a trey. Olivia Siefert scored four. Addy Osting, Morgan McKinney and Ally Gauck each chipped in two.
