The South Decatur softball team visited South Ripley Saturday, falling to the hosts 7-2.
South Ripley edged the Lady Cougars in hitting, 8-4, but committed five error’s to the Cougars’ four.
South scored one run in the second inning. Junior Julia Miller led off with a single, advanced to second on a bunt sacrifice by Clarissa Baltus, and then Taylor Noble singled to score Miller. South scored the other run in the third. RayAnn Noble reached on an error and stole second, then advanced to third on a passed ball. She scored on a sacrifice by Hedger.
Juniors Courtney Billingley and Julia Miller each added singles for South.
South Ripley scored four runs in the first inning and three more in the second on two base hits, then a home run by Linkmeyer. Junior Lizzie Hedger pitched, allowing eight hits, six walks and three earned runs while striking out four.
“We improved this game,” said South head coach Lisa Huff. “We played better defensively and we also put the ball in play, which was an improvement over the first two games.”
In the junior varsity game, South Ripley topped South Decatur 19-7.
Chayla Cox hit two singles to lead South. Ashley Johannigman, Morgan Eden and Haleigh Haining each singled.
South committed nine errors. Johanningman pitched her first game for South, allowing seven hits and nine walks while striking out six.
