Two local cross country teams and two other individual runners competed in the Greensburg Regional Cross Country Tournament Saturday morning. The meet featured runners that advanced from the Franklin Community and South Dearborn sectionals.
Greensburg freshman Shelby Pake qualified for the Carmel Semi-State meet. She is the fourth Lady Pirate harrier in school history to qualify individually for semi-state, and will compete Saturday at 10:30 a.m.
The Greensburg boys and girls squads each placed in the top 10, while North Decatur freshman Megan Hoover and South Decatur freshman Ashley Hamilton both ran for a shot at a semi-state appearance.
In the girls’ competition, Oldenburg Academy’s Sarah Billingsley was the individual winner. She set a new course record breaking the 18 minute barrier, running 17:58 for 5,000 meters. Center Grove won the team title with 32 points.
The Lady Pirates finished 10th in the team standings with 238 points, and finished the 2012 season with a record of 60-49. The first finisher for Greensburg was Shelby Pake. She ran a personal best of 19:47 and earned 10th place overall.

“Megan had a great season,” said North coach Scott Johnson. “She is a hard worker who deserved all of the success that she experienced this year. The amazing thing is that she is just a freshman. I look forward to having the opportunity to coach her the next three years.”
South freshman Ashley Hamilton placed 37th with a time of 21:21.77.
“As a freshman going into regionals, she had a great mentality,” said South coach Bethany Fromer of Hamilton. “She treated it like any other ordinary meet. She didn’t show her nerves and just went out and ran the best race she could that day. It is exciting to see how she has grown over the year and for the years that she will have to come in cross country. I know she is going to continue to work hard each year to be where she needs to be. She is a great athlete, she works hard and it shows!”
For the boys, Mooresville’s Michael Passmore took first place running 15:55, while Center Grove was the team champion scoring 65 points.
