Jamie McMurray celebrated a big win in Sunday’s 45th annual Camping World RV Sales 500 at Talladega SuperSpeedway.
It was McMurray’s first win in 108 races, and seventh NASCAR Sprint Cup victory in 398 career starts. McMurray won the race when a final lap wreck involving rookie Austin Dillion and Casey Mears resulted in a yellow flag, which froze the field with less than half a lap remaining. Dale Earnhardt Jr. finished second, followed by Rookie of the Year leader Ricky Stenhouse Jr in third. Paul Menard and Kyle Busch rounded out the top five finishers.
Jimmie Johnson finished 13th, taking over the NASCAR Sprint Cup Chase points lead from previous leader Matt Kenseth, who struggled late in the race finishing a disappointing 20th.
Ironically, NASCAR’s drivers take the 2013 Chase battle for the Sprint Cup title from the Series’ longest track (Talladega) to the shortest - Martinsville Speedway for next Sunday’s Goody’s 500.
