---- — When the All-Sectional team for the Hauser Volleyball Sectional 60 tournament was selected, South Decatur was assured of having at least two players after competing in the championship match Saturday.
Sure enough, seniors Julia Miller and Ashley Johannigman were named to the All-Sectional team.
“I’m so proud of these two young ladies,” said South head coach Lisa Bennett. “They fought with their hearts on Saturday evening and played to win a championship. They weren’t able to come home with the trophy, but this is definitely an honor worth celebrating.”
In the championship match against Hauser, Miller and Johannigman led South in hitting. Johannigman hit 30-for-35 with a team-high nine kills and five block-kills, and Miller hit 30-for-31 with eight kills and three block-kills. Against Shawe Memorial in the semifinal, Johannigman and Miller each hit 13-for-14 with a team-high six kills apiece.
Bennett looked back fondly of her time coaching the Cougars’ powerful hitting duo.
“I’m honored to have coached them the past four years and they will be missed tremendously,” she said. “I wish them both good luck as they continue into their senior year and with whatever the future may hold for them.”
