Rigney excels at Senior All-Star event

---- — Greensburg senior Collin Rigney went 3-for-3 in matches Saturday in the Indiana High School Tennis Coaches Association Senior All-Star event.

Rigney recently was named first team All-State by the IHSTECA. For the second year in a row and for the second time overall, Rigney was named First-Team All-State. He compiled a 25-1 season record overall, and finished his high school career with an 89-6 record. Of the 36 seniors from around the state who participated Saturday, 33 of them were All-State players.

Matches were played at DePauw University in Greencastle, with seniors from all parts of the state participating.

In Rigney’s first match, he faced JD Cox from Shelbyville and won 10-5.

In round two, Collin was paired with Eli Seng from Jasper for a doubles match against Nathan Zumbrun (Covenant Christian) and Sam Gentry (Brownsburg). Rigney and Seong prevailed in that match 10-4.

In his third match, Collin again played doubles with Sam Osborne (Perry Meridian).

Rigney and Osborne faced Alec St. John (Delta) and Jeffrey Chen (Carmel). Rigney and Osborne went ahead in the match 4-0, only to then fall behind 8-5 before coming back to win 10-8.
