The Greensburg varsity softball team swept a double-header Saturday against Columbus East.
The Lady Pirates won the first game 5-1, highlighted by sophomore Keauna Schultz’s double and two runs batted in.
Greensburg scored three runs in the bottom of the first to take an early lead and never trailed in the game. The Lady Pirates add two runs in the fifth inning for insurance.
Columbus East scored its lone run in the second inning.
Freshman Haylee Owens recorded the win on the mound with zero earned runs and three strikeouts in seven innings. She walked just one batter.
Sophomore Britney Biltz and Owens each hit 2-for-3, while Owens drove in a run to help her cause. Junior Megan Schmidt hit 2-for-3 with an RBI, while senior Alli Phillips added an RBI and a hit.
Greensburg also beat Columbus East 9-8 after trailing 5-0 in the first inning. Sophomore Britney Biltz hit her first home run of the season and drove in three runs.
The Lady Pirates tied the game in the third inning with four runs, added another in the fifth and three more in the sixth.
Alli Phillips started on the mound, while Owens pitched the final five innings for the win. Phillips struck out a batter in two innings.
Biltz tallied a triple, home run, and two runs to lead Greensburg’s production. Owens hit 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run, while Sydney Meyer hit 2-for-3 with two runs scored.
Junior Megan Schmidt went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a double.
Adding a double apiece were Meyer, Owens, junior Emma Wolter and Samantha Cain. Alli Phillips added an RBI.
The Lady Pirates will visit Jennings County Thursday (tonight) before traveling to Osgood for a game against Jac-Cen-Del Friday night.
