Pirate track competes at Decatur Central

Indianapolis — The Greensburg track and field teams competed in the Joe Schott Twilight Invitational Tuesday at Decatur Central High School.

Ben Davis won the girls’ competition with 125 points, while Brownsburg won the boys’ side with 175.

The invitational gave the Pirates a feel for big-school competition against teams out of their region.

Junior Sean Sellers scored the highest placing for the Greensburg boys, taking second in the high jump with a mark of six feet.

For the Lady Pirates, freshman distance runner Shelby Pake took fifth in the 3200-meter run, clocking a time of 12:12.16. The time was six seconds off the second-place runner.

Kasey Moeller tallied the next-highest placing for the Lady Pirates. She took 11th in the long jump with a mark of 13-06.75. McKella Lynette was 12th (13-05).

Senior Mary Kamman was 12th in the shot put, marking a 29-07. Senior Molly Wilcox was 21st (17-11).

Kamman was 12th in the discus throw (74-08) and Wilcox was 18th (34-03).

Mary Kate Porter took 13th in the 1600 (6:36.69) and 18th in the 800 (2:59.73).

Abby Layman was 14th in the 400 dash in 1:13.93.

For the Pirate boys, senior Ryan Martin took fourth in the shot put, marking a length of 42-00.

Senior Colin Evans placed fourth in the 800-meter run, clocking a time of 2:10.52. Senior Chase McCreary tallied a 2:13.65 for seventh in the 800.

McCreary was 10th in the 400 dash in 58.32, while Alex Martinez was 11th in 1:01.74.

Francis Teague was 11th in the 1600 run in 5:27.

Cody McConnell placed sixth in the 300-meter hurdles in 50.22 seconds, and took eighth in the 110-meter hurdles in 19.37.

Michael Back was 13th in the 3200-meter run in 11:54.54.

Senior Shane Ploeger was 13th in the long jump with a 16-09, and McConnell was 14th (15-00.75).

Greensburg’s boys produced strong performances in field events, including the throws. Evans took fourth in the discus with a mark of 125-05. Sophomore Kevin Beaver was eighth with a 109-08, and sophomore Nathan Hayes was 13th (101.05).

Kyle Redelman was sixth in the shot with a mark of 39-10, and David Booker took seventh (39-03).

Greensburg is scheduled to host Shelbyville and Connersville tonight for a 5 p.m. tri meet, then host Franklin next Tuesday at 5 p.m.
