Pirate track teams honor seniors

Greensburg — The Greensburg track and field teams hosted Franklin Community Tuesday night, honoring the upperclassmen on Senior Night.

The seniors on the boys squad are Ethan Amburgey, Luke Anderson, Colin Evans, Averi Fultz, Ryan Martin, Chase McCreary, Dustin McReynolds, Peter Myers and Shane Ploeger.

“A Big Thank You to our seniors for their solid work and leadership,” said Myers. “This is a great group of young men and the team wishes them well in their future endeavors.”

The boys placed second to Franklin 96-36, while the girls also were second, 98-25.

The Pirate boys tallied two individual wins. Evans won the 800-meter run in a time of 2:07.5, and junior Sean Sellers won the high jump with a mark of six feet, two inches.

“Despite a few rain drops, the weather held and overall it was a solid night for all of the team,” said Coach Myers.

Scoring Highlights of the evening include:

Second place finishers:  Dillon Able 110 and 300 hurdles; Evans discus; Chase McCreary 400 dash; Pete Myers shot put; Michael Back 3200 and Ethan Amburgey 200 dash.

Third place finishes:  Peyton Buening 1600, Shane Ploeger long jump, Alex Martinez 400 dash, Kyle Redelman shot put and McCreary 800 run.

Lady Pirates honor four seniors

The Lady Pirates honored Ericka Carman, Jessica Hensley, Ashton Lunsford, and Molly Wilcox.

The evening began by honoring our four seniors for their leadership, hard work, and dedication to Greensburg track and field,” said girls coach Katina Tekulve. “The coaching staff and team would like to thank these four young ladies for their participation in track and field.”

Carman has been a four-year member of the team and plans to study nursing at University of Indianapolis. Hensley is a two-year track team member and will be attending Cincinnati State to study culinary arts. Lunsford is a two-year member and will study psychology at Hanover College. This is Wilcox’s first year of track and will attend Indiana State for nursing.

Highlighting the night were two wins by freshman Shelby Pake in the 3200-meter run (12:39.9) and 1600 run (5:46.9). The 1600 time was a new personal best and ninth on the top-10 performance list.

Freshman McKella Lynette won the long jump with a mark of 14-04.5, a new personal best.

Sophomore Cara Zeigler took second in the 300 hurdles in 56.7, a new personal best. Lynette took third in the 200 in a new PR of 30.64.

“Cara Zeigler is finding her stride in the 300 hurdles and ran a new best time in the event while scoring second,” said Tekulve.

Carman placed third in the high jump (4-04). Mary Kamman took third in two throwing events (shot put, 31-02 and discus, 92-11).

“It was an impressive evening as many ladies stepped up and filled in for their injured and ill teammates,” said Tekulve. “There were a lot of bright spots that we can celebrate, as well as build on as we approach the East Central Invite and the Greensburg Invite this week.”

Other highlights included “great individual performances” from the Lady Pirates, according to Tekulve. Lunsford ran a new career best time in the 200 with a 31.3. Taylor Brown and Erica Six both threw their personal best distances in the discus throw. Brown improved by more than four feet with a throw of 66-10 and Six threw 61-06.
