Pirate harriers run in Eagle Classic

---- — The Greensburg cross country teams competed in the 12th annual Eagle Classic at Brown County High School Saturday morning.

The Pirate boys squad placed 14th out of the 24 teams in the small school division. Sophomore Peyton Buening led Greensburg for the second straight race. Buening broke 18:00 for the first time this season. He placed 38th in 17:49. Freshman Reid McClintic ran his fastest time ever for 5 km, finishing in 47th with a time of 18:03. Ethan Sebastian continued to improve, lowering his season best time to 18:22 taking 66th overall.

Greg Schroeder came in fourth for Greensburg and 98th in the race with a time of 19:07. Jonathan Richards dropped over a minute off of his best time and placed 109th in 19:32. Kevin Johnson broke the 20:00 barrier for the first time ever. He crossed the finish line in 19:58 and was 120th. Louis Moore also bettered his previous personal best on Saturday as he ran 20:37 to earn 130th.

The boys’ record is now 28-24.

In the Pirate girls’ varsity race, Shelby Pake ran under 20:00 for the first time in 2013. She placed fifth in the small school race with a time of 19:59. Freshman Allie Reisman recorded a personal best of 21:27 to place 34th while fellow freshman Ellie Burkhart took 51st in 22:37, her best time ever. Senior Erin Hamilton ran her fastest race of the season to place 57th in 22:48. April Morrow followed in 58th. Morrow dropped over a minute off of her best time and finished in 22:48.

Mary Kate Porter was the Lady Pirate’s sixth runner Saturday. She had her best time of the season, crossing the finish line in 24:07 to place 80th. Cara Zeigler was 82nd in 24:18, her fastest time ever.

The Lady Pirates finished eighth out of 22 in the team standings. Their record now stands at 37-12.

In reserve action, Ben Newhart placed 138th in 20:44 to establish in new personal record. Freshman Draven Hall lowered his 5km best by over 2:00, placing 173rd in 21:58. McKinley Bottoms continued to improve as she ran a new best time of 26:52.
