North's Hoover wins JCD Invite

The North Decatur and South Decatur cross country teams competed in the Jac-Cen-Del Invitational Saturday.

North’s girls placed fourth with 92 points, while the boys scored 125 points for their own fourth-place finish. Brownstown Central’s girls (46) and boys (34) each won their respective races.

North sophomore Megan Hoover won the girls race, the fourth consecutive meet that she has won.

“I’m really proud of all of our runners, and especially Megan today,” said North head coach Scott Johnson.

According to Johnson, 12 of the 14 North runners posted their best times of the season.

“Part of that can be attributed to the ideal running conditions,” explained Johnson, “but the majority of it is due to the fact that we have great kids who work hard, set goals, and then go out and give everything they have to achieve them.”

Hoover won the girls race with a time of 19:51.

Other ND girls runners: 29. Haley Wesseler 24:37; 34. Emily Kissel 25:29; 35. Kaylee Rosenbach 25:33; 40. Emily Scott 26:29; 45. Celeste Pacilio 27:26; 52. Jaelyn Matthews 29:16.

“Megan is having a great season,” said Johnson. “Hopefully she can continue her successful ways in the future. Our schedule is really tough next week, so she, and all of our runners, has a big challenge in front of them. Oldenburg is always tough (who we run on Tuesday) and there are also some great teams in the South Dearborn Invitational next Saturday. It should be a fun week.”
