Pirate JH spikers split Columbus Central

---- — The Greensburg eighth grade volleyball team defeated Columbus Central Thursday, 25-14, 25-14 in Columbus.

Serving stats: Bailey Meyer 11-11, 2 aces; Sierra Johnson 11-12; Ellie Kramer 11-11; Kirstin Hersley 5-6; Ashley Bower 4-5; Ashlynn Meyer 3-4.

Hitting: Sierra Johnson 8-10, 2 kills; Kyra Whitaker: 7-8, 1 kill; Keirsten Lynette: 4-6, 1 kill; Ashlynn Meyer: 4-4, 1 kill; Taylor Klene 1-1, 1 kill

Passing: Bailey Meyer 17-18; Kirstin Hersley: 15-17; Sierra Johnson: 14-16; Ashlynn Meyer: 9-10; Ashley Bower 5-5.

Keirsten Lynette and Bailey Meyer both added a block.

Ashlynn Meyer was 25-26 with 3 assists.

Greensburg seventh grade coach Carol Koester said the team made an “awesome attempt” Thursday against the Columbus Central Chargers. The Pirates lost in two sets, 25-14, 25-23, but coach Koester said they “have shown amazing progress along the way.”

Claire Dennett served 6-7 with 3 aces, followed by Anika Scripture serving 5-6 with 2 aces and Lily Grimes with 5-7 and 1 ace. Cheyenne Schoettmer, Simone O’Mara, and Logan Hammer served 2-3. Abby Gommel was 2-4 with 1 ace, Colleen Bray 1-1 and Kierra Cooney 1-2.

Leading in passing was Kirsten Fong 86 percent, Cheyenne Schoettmer 83 percent, and Davilynn Wesseler 80 percent.

Passing 75 percent were Kierra Cooney and Natalie Lutz, and at 71 percent were Simone O’Mara and Logan Hammer. Simone O’Mara was 1/1 in hitting.
