---- — The North Decatur cross country teams competed in the Batesville Invitational Tuesday. Both Charger teams placed third in the small-school division.
“We did well,” said North head coach Scott Johnson.
Batesville won the girls small-school division with a 20. Taking runner-up was Jac-Cen-Del (58). North was third (69) and Milan took fifth (92).
Sophomore Megan Hoover won the overall girls race by a significant margin.
“She continued what has been a tremendous year,” said Johnson of Hoover. “I look forward to seeing what she can do in the big races we have coming up - Greensburg Invitational, County, MHC, and Sectional.”
The Lady Chargers took third with a team score of 69 in the small-school division. Hoover clocked a winning time of 20:39. Haley Wesseler placed 12th in 24:37. Emily Scott was 17th in 26:58, and Celeste Pacilio was 19rd in 27:42. Kaylee Rosenbach took 20th in 28:19, while Jaelyn Matthews took 22nd in 28:51.
“I also want to mention both Haley Wesseler and Emily Scott on the girls team,” said Johnson. “Both have been showing tremendous improvement and placed in the top 20 last night. Great job.”
The Charger boys took third with a team score of 83.
“The guys were a pleasant surprise last night,” said Johnson. “I wasn’t expecting them to do as well as they did, mainly because two of our normal top five were out with injuries. That is where we are lucky to not only have depth on our men’s team, but also quality from top to bottom. I really enjoy coaching this team and appreciate their ‘next man up’ mentality.”
South Ripley won the boys race with a score of 31. Batesville followed with a 32. Jac-Cen-Del was fourth with a 96, and Milan was fifth with 130 points.
Brady Holloway led North’s boys with an 11th-place time of 19:44. Arek Holloway followed with a time of 20:12, good for 15th place. Gage Acton placed 17th in 20:29, while Tyler Jennings was 18th in 20:37. Kyle Fogle took 22nd in 21:52 and Michael Metz was 23rd in 22:16. Luke Badgley placed 27th in 23:34.
The Chargers next race at the Greensburg Invitational tonight (Thursday), which begins at 5 p.m.
