Open gym at GCHS fieldhouse

The Decatur County Parks and Recreation Department is offering open gym at the GCHS Fieldhouse on Sundays from 2 to 9 p.m.  Take advantage of this opportunity to play basketball, volleyball or walk on the indoor track. This is being offered free of charge by the Parks and Recreation Department.



Pirate 7A boys top Bulldogs

The Greensburg 7A boys basketball team returned to action at Batesville with a 42-26 victory. Batesville led after the first stanza 10-9 before the Pirates picked up their defense holding the Bulldogs to four points in the second period and trailing 19-14 at halftime.

Our defense and holding our turnovers down was the difference,” said coach Bob Barker, who added that Kyle Sellers did a nice job on the boards with a season high eight rebounds. Luke Lozier and Brayton Owens pulled down six boards each. Lozier had 18 points to lead all scorers. Tucker Bailey had 12 points and three assists. Sellers had six points, Owens four and Nick Heil rounded out the scoring with two. Lozier had three steals, while Heil, Tucker and Ty Hall picked off one each.



North C-team overcomes South rally

The North Decatur boys C-team defeated South Decatur in a clash that became a second-half thriller.

North led 12-4 after the first quarer and 19-6 at halftime, but South reduced the 13-point hole to just five with a 12-4 third-quarter run. The Cougars outscored the Chargers 10-8, but it was not enough.

Austin Brown led North with eight points, while Brian Williamson followed with seven. Arek Holloway scored six points, Derek Hocker and Justin Weisenbach each chipped in three and Landon Crites and Eric Moorman rounded out the scoring with two apiece.



YMCA youth basketball extended

The Decatur County Family YMCA has extended its registration for its Kindergarten-through-sixth grade youth basketball leagues (K-1, 2-3, 4-6 Age Divisions) to this Saturday, Jan. 12.

The deadline for the sports cheerleading program (ages 5-9) will be extended to Jan. 19. Interested families can sign up their youth at the Y and building hours can be found on their Web site, which is www.decaturcountyfamilyymca.org. The Y does not turn away community members for inability to pay and scholarships are available.



North girls vs Franklin County postponed

The North Decatur girls varsity and junior varsity games against Franklin County, originally scheduled Friday, Dec. 28, have been postponed due to the weather. A makeup date has not yet been announced.
