Pirate 8A boys travel for two games

Greensburg — The Greensburg boys 8A basketball team traveled to Batesville Monday night and came out with a 41-26 loss.

Greensburg started out very flat in the first half against Batesville, only scoring four points.

It was the first game back since Christmas break and it looked like our team forgot how to play in a game situation,” said coach Andrew Ruble.

The pirates trailed 19-4 at half but made a push in the third quarter to cut the deficit to nine points. Batesville held strong and Greensburg ended up only matching the Bulldogs’ scoring.

Greg Schroader led his team with six points. Sam Slusher provided a huge spark off the bench with five, while Dillon Merritt, Trevor Reynolds and Chase Hogg all had three points apiece. Louis Moore 2, Chancey Holdsworth 2, and Brent Bowling 2. Louis Moore led the Pirates with five rebounds and Trevor Reynolds recorded three steals.

The 8A Pirates traveled to Columbus Northside and lost 43-18.

“We came out strong in the first quarter, which was nice to see,” said coach Ruble. “We played with much emotion and was not flat at all. The biggest factor was Northside’s center, who scored 23 of their 43 points and was a load to handle.

“We threw a couple different looks at him, but he still converted on many baskets,” said Ruble. “I was extremely happy with the passion and energy we played with. Even though we struggled to execute on the offensive side of the ball, there were many things we can build on for the final stretch of the season.”

Dillon Merritt led his team with six points. Chancey Holdsworth hit a trey and scored five total points. Greg Schroeder, Sam Slusher, Louis Moore, and Harlan Dolan all added two points apiece, and Kamron Sims hit a free throw. Trevor Reynolds and Harlan Dolan led the team with four rebounds apiece. Merritt and Schroeder each recorded three steals.

Greensburg, now 2-8 on the season, will host St. Louis tonight for a 5:30 tipoff.
