The North Decatur boys junior high basketball teams competed in the Mid-Hoosier Conference tournament this week.

The eighth graders defeated Morristown 39-35 with a 14-8 second-quarter run. The score was tied at 8 after the first quarter.

Ben Kinker led North with 23 points. Kyle Kramer followed with eight, while Nick Moorman’s six and Matt Kachur’s two rounded out the scoring.

The eighth graders were set to compete Saturday at Eastern Hancock in the second round.

The seventh graders fell to Morristown 36-22. The game was tied at 15 going into the third quarter, when Morristown outscored North 12-5 then 9-2 in the final quarter to win.

Scoring for North (7-5):  Evan Smith 7, Cole Parmer 6, Caleb Stapp 4, Sidney Ricke 2, Luke Kinker 2, Brandon Becker 1.

Pirate 8th girls tally first win

After a slow start, the Greensburg eighth grade girls tallied their first win of the season 34-21 against St. Louis Thursday.

“The score does not show how hard these ladies played,” said coach Amy McFall. The Pirates were able to have a shut-out first quarter and allowed St. Louis to only score six points in the 2nd and two points in the 3rd.

Defense was the key in the first four quarters, and allowed us to really set up our offense and get some good shots in the paint,” McFall added.

Scoring was very balanced:  Sydney Meyer 9, Claire Fleetwood 9, Gabby Burton 8, Samantha Cain 6, Michaela Myers 2.

North 8th girls beat Hauser

The North Decatur eighth grade girls basketball team defeated Hauser 36-25.

Scoring for the young Lady Chargers were Olivia Siefert with 14 points and nine rebounds.

Chelsea Hitchcock and Morgan Mauer each finished with six points. Meredith Fogle finished with five points. Ally Gauck scored  three points. Finishing the scoring for the Chargers was Laury Wysong with two.
