Greensburg Daily News
The Greensburg boys swimming team turned in a successful performance in a tri meet Tuesday night.
The Aqua Pirates hosted Oldenburg Academy and Eastern Hancock at the C.W. Childress Pool. The hosts beat Eastern Hancock 135-90, while Oldenburg placed third.
“It was a good meet for us,” said Greensburg head coach Josh Hawkins. “We swam well.”
Andrew Schroeder and senior Justin Starkey swam in all three relays and in two individual events.
Greensburg won all three relays. Swimming in the 200-yard medley relay and in the 200 freestyle relay were Nick Oesterling, Brady Niles, Andy Dashiell and Justin Starkey.
The quartet of Drew Reiger, Spencer Kuehl, Dashiell and Starkey, swam in the 400 free relay.
“That was pretty key,” said Hawkins of the three relay wins.
Starkey won the 100-yard freestyle, while Brady Niles took the 50 free with a personal-best time.
Sophomore Nick Oesterling won the 200-yard individual medley with a personal best, and also won the 100-yard butterfly.
“That was a big highlight,” said Hawkins of Oesterling’s 200 IM.
Greensburg went one-two in the 200 free with Reiger and Spencer Kuehl. The Pirates also went one-two in the 500 free, with Andrew Schroeder and Todd Overmyer. Schoeder’s win marked his first career high school victory. Schroeder also swam a personal-best in the 100 butterfly, placing third.
Kyle Howard won the 1-meter diving event.
“He dove really well,” said Hawkins. “He did a really good job.”
The Pirate boys will cheer on the Lady Aqua Pirates as the girls swim in the preliminary sectionals at Columbus North tonight at 5:30 p.m.
