The Greensburg swimming teams split against East Central Tuesday night on the road.
The Lady Aqua Pirates beat the Trojans 114-62, while the Pirate boys lost to a very strong Trojan squad 117-60 in the Pirates’ season opener.
The girls won every event accept the 100 FL and started the meet by winning the 200 Medley with Bri Stagge, Emily Eberhardt, Abby Bausback, and Molly Oesterling.
Senior Megan McDole then swam a personal-best and won the 200 FR.
Head coach Josh Hawkins said the 200 IM was the most impressive performance of the night as Greensburg’s girls went 1-2-3 swimming against East Central’s strongest swimmer. Sophomore Bri Stagge won while sophomore Abby Bausback dropped 10 seconds for second. Emily Eberhardt dropped two seconds for third.
“It was an awesome race,” said Coach Hawkins. “Both Bri and Abby swam great and dropped time, and Emily came from behind in the last 25 yards to overtake third.”
For the boys, Nick Oesterling swam well and won the boy’s 200 IM.
Junior Molly Oesterling then won the 50 free and 100 free. Bri Stagge swam another PR in the 500 for a win while Megan McDole finished second.
Senior Morgan Stagge, Emily Eberhardt, Kara Niles, and Alli Duerstock teamed up to win the 200 FR relay, while Nick Oesterling, Drew Reiger, Spencer Kuehl, and Brady Niles swam to victory in the 200 FR relay.
Morgan Stagge and McKinley Bottoms went 1-2 in the 100 back, as did Nick Oesterling and Spencer Kuehl.
“Spencer swam exceptionally well,” noted Coach Hawkins. “He is poised to have a tremendous season.”
Next, Emily Eberhardt and Alli Duerstock went 1-2 in the 100 breaststroke.
The Lady Pirates finished the night off with a big win in the 400 Free Relay with Molly Oesterling, Abby Bausback, Megan McDole, and Bri Stagge.
The girls improve to 2-0, while the boys fall to 0-1.
The Pirate swimmers are back in action next Tuesday at home against Lawrenceburg and Oldenburg.
