Greensburg — The Greensburg football team achieved a milestone that no Pirate squad had reached in more than a generation. The visiting Pirates knocked off the Class 4A East Central Trojans 34-20 Friday night, the first win over East Central in 23 years.

Greensburg lead early and scored often, leading 20-7 at halftime. The Pirates forced three Trojan turnovers, while Greensburg itself played a turnover-free game.

By the time East Central was able to rally back in the second half, the Pirates were already ahead by a comfortable enough score to prevail.

Greensburg improves to 5-3 on the season, ensuring a winning 2013 campaign. East Central, the Class 4A EIAC champion, falls to 3-5. The Pirates host Rushville next Friday.

Devin Ruble gave Greensburg the first lead with a run early in the game.

A Trent Black interception gave the ball back to the Pirates. Senior Andy Meadows capitalized with a one-yard keeper, and two-point conversion pushed the Pirates further ahead at 14-0.

Meadows scored yet again, on his way to a four-touchdown night.

Black tallied another interception to crush the Trojans’ hopes of a comeback, ending up with two pickoffs on the night.

Greensburg finished its schedule against Class 4A teams unbeaten, and also undefeated on the road.

Next Friday Greensburg will face Rushville at home for their last game of the regular season, and for Senior Night.

Greensburg hosts Indianapolis Marshall in the first round of Sectional 30, Friday, Oct. 25 at 7 p.m. The winner plays the game 2 winner between Rushville and Guerin Catholic.
