---- — The South Decatur volleyball team improved to 20-9 with a four-set win over visiting Medora Monday night. The Lady Cougars beat the Lady Hornets 25-11, 25-16, 23-25, 25-23.

“Overall, it was a great win,” said coach Lisa Bennett. “The first two games the girls played amazing!”

Bennett said South was able to utilize junior varsity players to allow them playing time before sectionals. She noted, however, that South “started to relax and got a little lazy.”

“Once you let a team back into the game, it is hard to regain momentum,” she noted.

“Overall, we had some great nights from our girls,” said Bennett.

South served 90-for-97 (93 percent) with 54 points and 14 aces. Senior Julia Miller served 18-for-19 (95 percent) with 12 points and three aces, and had “a great all-around night.” Miller also hit 17-for-18 with seven kills, and 11 digs.

Bennett said South had great serving nights from Megan Niese, Courtney Billingsley and Clarissa Baltus. Niese served 26-for-17 with 18 points and two aces. Billingsley served 17-for-18 with 10 points and four aces, and Baltus served 11-for-11 with five points and an ace.

Ashley Johannigman hit 28-for-32 with a team-high 18 kills and three block-kills. Baltus hit 22-for-25 with five kills, Niese hit 11-for-11 with one kill and Brittany Koors hit 13-for-13.

Bennett applauded the “great night setting” by Koors, who set 59-for-59 with 25 assists and contributed seven digs in the back row.

Olivia Watkins hit 3-for-3 with a kill, and Haleigh Haining hit 3-for-3.

Digs: Miller 11, Koors 7, Niese 7, Johannigman 5, Billingsley 4, Mariah Green 2, Baltus 1, Watkins 1.

The South JV squad won in two games, 25-20, 25-23.

Senior Night will be next Monday, and the JV start time is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. against Crothersville.
