Lady Pirate JV falls to Lions

Greensburg — The Greensburg junior varsity softball team fell to visiting Rushville last Monday, 16-13, despite outhitting the Lions 16-11.

Rushville scored five runs in the first inning, but Greensburg tied it with five of its own in the bottom half. Rushville went ahead for good in the third with four runs, taking a 9-5 lead. It scored two more in the fourth.

The leading hitters for Greensburg was Allie Geis with a 5-for-5 night with two RBI’s. Renea Kramer had three hits with a double, Becca Koors and Katie Bennet had two hits. Koors also drove in four runs. Chipping in with singles were Shanda Workman, Kelsie Fischer, Maddy Schroeder and Bri Foster. Each starter drove in one run each with their hits, besides Geis and Koors.

Renea Kramer started the game for the Lady Pirates. She pitched four innings, giving up 11 runs, only five earned runs on eight hits, walked four and struck out four. Kelsie Fischer relieved Kramer for the last three innings in her first stint in the circle this year. Fischer gave up five runs all earned on 3 hits, walked 5 and struck out two.

The girls got behind early came back, gave up the lead and again fought to get it within three runs. They were finally shut down by three runs.

“As they have all season so far, have never given up,” said coach Russell Wilhoit, “play with a lot of energy and have came a long way since the first of the season.”

Wilhoit said Greensburg was scheduled to play five games this week, but rain forced cancellations at Jennings County and Jac-Cen-Del. South Dearborn cancelled a double-header.

“Next week will be a very busy week for the very young Lady Pirates,” said Wilhoit. Greensburg travels to Shelbyville Monday for a 5 p.m. game, visits Franklin County Tuesday at 5 p.m., and Franklin Central in Indianapolis for a freshman game featuring the same players.

Batesville travels to Greensburg on Thursday for a rematch at 5 p.m. Friday. Jennings County visits Greensburg for a makeup of a rained out game last week. and Whiteland visits for a freshman double-header that starts at 10 a.m.
