The North Decatur boys basketball team fell to host Milan Saturday, 65-56.
The Indians jumped out to a 17-8 lead after the first quarter, but North narrowed the margin with a 15-13 second-quarter edge. The Chargers trailed 30-23 at the half.
Milan extended its lead to 42-29 after three periods. The Chargers outscored the Indians 27-23 in the final eight minutes, but it was not enough.
North shot 13-for-25 from the foul line, while Milan shot 17-for-20, marking another difference in the outcome.
The Chargers were without the services of two varsity players. Senior starter John Hammersmith was out of the game with an illness, while freshman Dayne Lecher is still sidelined with an injury.
Senior Jason Kirchhoff led his team in scoring for the first time in his high school career, pacing the Chargers with 14 points. Junior Brock Ricke followed with 10 points, while Luke Badgley scored eight.
Other scoring: Matt Laudick 6, Mitch Knecht 5, Kevin Geis 4, Zach Johnson 4, Andrew Hocker 3, Evan Wallpe 2.
North, now 0-2, will visit South Decatur (2-0) Friday for an annual rivalry matchup.
