McIntosh, Sellers named IBCA All-State

Indianapolis — A pair of Greensburg underclassman basketball players received recognition from the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association this week.

Greensburg junior Bryant McIntosh was named IBCA Subway Underclass First Team All-State, and junior Sean Sellers was named IBCA Subway Underclass Honorable Mention All-State.

McIntosh leads Greensburg with 16.7 points and 7.4 assists per game, and Sellers leads the Pirates with 17.7 points and seven rebounds per game. The Greensburg duo led their team to a Semi-State championship Saturday over Mt. Vernon (Fortville).

It was announced Thursday that 15 seniors and 15 underclass boys basketball players have earned IBCA/Subway first-team All-State honors for 2012-13.

Also, 135 additional players were selected as honorable mention IBCA/Subway Senior All-State and 115 additional juniors, sophomores and freshmen were recognized as honorable mention IBCA/Subway Underclass All-State in a process organized by the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association and presented by Subway Restaurants of Indiana.

Collin Hartman of Class 4A state finalist Cathedral and Michael Volovic of Class 4A state finalist Carmel are among those picked to the IBCA/Subway Senior First Team.

Completing that list are Darryl Baker of Jeffersonville, V.J. Beachem of New Haven, Mike Crawford of Tipton, Devin Davis of Warren Central, Zak Irvin of Hamilton Southeastern, Demetrius Jackson of Mishawaka Marian, Mike Schlotman of Munster, Bryson Scott of Fort Wayne Northrop, Blake Simmons of Castle, Basil Smotherman of Lawrence North, Austin Torres of Penn, Zavier Turner of Pike and Clay Yeo of Triton.

The IBCA/Subway Underclass First Team features sophomore Jalen Coleman of Class 4A finalist Cathedral, junior Zach McRoberts of Class 4A finalist Carmel and junior Bryant McIntosh of Class 3A finalist Greensburg among a group of 13 juniors, one sophomore and one freshman.

Others on the Underclass first 15 are junior James Blackmon Jr. of Fort Wayne Luers, junior Trevon Bluiett of Park Tudor, junior Aaron Brennan of Guerin Catholic, junior C.J. Coleman of Mt. Vernon (Fortville), junior Ernie Duncan of Evansville Harrison, junior Grant Evans of Wapahani, freshman Eron Gordon of North Central, junior JaQuan Lyle of Evansville Bosse, junior Trey Lyles of Indianapolis Tech, junior Mack Mercer of Plymouth, junior Tayler Persons of Kokomo and junior Tyler Wideman of Lake Central.

Also named Honorable Mention was Batesville sophomore Bryan Hoeing.

The IBCA all-state teams are selected in a process where all IBCA-member head coaches have the opportunity to vote for top players from schools on the traditional regional structure of the non-class tournament format. Representatives from each of those 16 regional areas, plus six at-large representatives (two each from IHSAA Districts 1, 2 and 3), then meet to review those votes and finalize the selections.

Subway Restaurants of Indiana, extending a partnership that was started in November with the IBCA/Subway Player of the Week program, is making a financial contribution to the IBCA Scholarship Fund for becoming the presenting partner of the IBCA all-state teams.

As part of the partnership, Subway also will provide plaques to first-team honorees and certificates to players receiving honorable mention recognition. Those items will be available to each recipient’s coach at the annual IBCA Clinic in April, allowing his coach to present the award to each player at his school.

2013 IBCA/Subway Underclass All-State First Team:  James Blackmon Jr., Fort Wayne Luers; Trevon Bluiett, Park Tudor;

Aaron Brennan, Guerin Catholic; C.J. Coleman, Mt. Vernon (Fortville); Jalen Coleman, Cathedral; Ernie Duncan, Evansville Harrison; Grant Evans, Wapahani; Eron Gordon, North Central; JaQuan Lyle, Evansville Bosse; Trey Lyles, Indianapolis Tech; Bryant McIntosh, Greensburg; Zach McRoberts, Carmel; Mack Mercer, Plymouth; Tayler Persons, Kokomo; Tyler Wideman, Lake Central.
