Pirates host Crossbones Classic Invite

Greensburg — The Greensburg track and field teams hosted seven schools in the annual Greensburg Crossbones Classic Invitational Saturday.

The Greensburg boys placed fifth overall with 24 points, with Shelbyville taking home the team title with a 169.

The Pirates performed well in field events with a pair of third-place throws. Senior Colin Evans was third in the discus with a mark of 115 feet, five inches. Senior Peter Myers was third in the shot put with a mark of 43-08.5, and senior Ryan Martin was fourth with a shot put of 43-02.5.

Evans placed fifth in the 800-meter run in 2:08.

Senior Shane Ploeger placed sixth in the high jump (5-02).

Cody McConnell took sixth in the 110-meter hurdles in 18.1.

Taking fifth was the 4x100 relay team of Dillon Able, senior Ethan Amburgey, Ploeger and Averi Fultz, clocking a 48.2.

The 4x400 relay of Able, Amburgey, Evans and senior Chase McCreary, tallied a fifth-place 3:54.3.

Boys team results:  1 Shelbyville 169; 2 Rushville 146; 3 Greenfield Central 82; 4 Lawrence Central 69; 5 Greensburg 24; 6 Greenwood Christian Academy 2; 7 Oldenburg Academy 0.

The Lady Pirates earned sixth place (35 points) and were just five points within fifth-place finishers Lawrence Central. Greenfield Central won the Invitational with 159 points.

According to head coach Katina Tekulve, the Lady Pirates concluded “a very competitive schedule this week with some great performances.”

Mary Kamman marked a new season-best in the shot put with a measurement of 32-06. Tekulve said freshmen Shelby Pake, Kasey Moeller, Taylor McIntosh and McKella Lynette, were all “very competitive” in their individual events. Pake ran a second-place time of 12:15.9 in the 3200-meter run. The winning time of 11:25.5, run by Oldenburg Academy’s Sarah Billingsley, was unofficially just a half-second off the meet record. Pake was third in the 1600 with a time of 5:45.8.

Lady Pirate finishers:

Third place - Mary Kamman (shot put- 32-06, discus- 92-07.5).

Fifth place - McKella Lynette (long jump- 14-0.75); Kasey Moeller (200, 29.1); 4x100 relay (Ashton Lunsford, McKella Lynette, Cara Zeigler, Kasey Moeller), 56.9.

Sixth place - Kasey Moeller (100- 13.8, long jump- 13-09-7.5); Taylor McIntosh (high jump- 4-08).

Girls team results:  1 Greenfield Central 159; 2 OA 92; 3 Shelbyville 85; 4 Rushville 79; 5 Lawrence Central 40; 6 Greensburg 35; 7 Greenwood Christian Academy 7.

The Pirates are now entering the championship phase of the season, preparing for Tuesday’s County Meet. North Decatur will host Greensburg and South Decatur for the annual meet, which Greensburg’s boys and North’s girls won last spring. Greensburg will travel to East Central for the EIAC meet Thursday, May 9.
