Lady Pirates split past two

Greensburg — The Greensburg varsity softball team split its past two games during an active week on the diamond.

The Lady Pirates, ranked second in the latest Class 3A ICGSA poll, fell to visiting East Central 6-3 Thursday. The Pirates led their conference rival 2-1 after three innings, but the Trojans went ahead with a two-run double in the fifth inning.

Trailing 4-2 in the sixth, Greensburg senior Shelby Ward hit an infield single to shortstop. Britney Biltz grounded into a fielder’s choice, but Emma Wolter knocked an infield hit on a full count. Alli Phillips moved the runners up, and Biltz scored on an infield single by Megan Schmidt to make it 4-3.

The Trojans plated two runs in the top of the seventh on a double and an error, capping the score at 6-3.

Greensburg is 14-5 and will play Triton Central Monday on the road at 5 p.m.

Lady Pirates trounce Twisters 19-2

The Lady Pirates scored in every inning of a 19-2 win over Oldenburg Academy Tuesday.

Greensburg jumped out 3-0 in the first inning, and led 5-2 after two innings. The Pirates scored six runs in each of the next two frames, and added two more in the fifth.

Greensburg tallied 17 hits, including eight for extra bases. Britney Biltz went 4-for-5, including two doubles and a triple, with six RBI’s and three runs. Megan Schmidt went 3-for-4 with two RBI’s and two doubles, scoring twice.

Senior Kayanna Wolter hit a two-run single, while Whitney Tallent and Chelsea Hersley each added an RBI. Senior Lillie Wolter scored two runs and senior Channon Brown also scored.

Scoring two runs apiece were Emma Geis, Keauna Schultz, Tallent and Hersley. Geis, Shelby Ward and Kalynne Asche each added a run.

Tallent and Schmidt each added a triple.

Tallent pitched all five innings of three-hit ball, striking out three and walking three.
