Lady Pirate netters post two 5-0 wins

Greensburg — The Greensburg girls varsity tennis team tallied back-to-back wins this week, both by 5-0 scores.

The Lady Pirates defeated host Lawrenceburg 5-0 Wednesday.

Sophomore Danielle Schroeder at first singles defeated Jackie Schornick 6-2, 6-0.

At second singles, senior Kaeli Fong blanked Sydney Romines 6-0, 6-0.

Junior Claire Welage at third singles beat Kelly Gasner 6-1, 6-1.

At first doubles, sophomore Courtney Nelson and Caroline Pratt beat Cheyenne Younger and Kerri Collins 6-1, 6-1.

Freshman Abby Bailey and sophomore Olivia Slusher beat Phoebe Beiderhake and Frizzell 6-4, 6-1.

Greensburg defeated visiting Rushville 5-0 Thursday.

Schroeder improved to 7-4 on the season with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Allison Wainwright.

Fong, now 5-5, beat Lucy Dyer 6-0, 6-0.

Welage (5-2) topped Sarah Hapring 6-1, 6-1.

At first doubles, Nelson and Pratt (both 5-6 at first doubles) beat Jill Yager and Carey Yager 6-2, 6-3.

Abby Bailey and Olivia Slusher (both 6-4 at second doubles) beat Nici Martin and Lucy Dyer 6-3, 7-6.

“I couldn’t ask for any more from my singles players tonight,” said Greensburg head coach Gary Bailey. “Doubles closed it out nicely when it was time.”

In junior varsity action, Kelly Meyer won at singles. The doubles pairs of Mackenzie Kovacich and Sydney Reynolds, and Tori Giddings and Tiffany Springmeyer, both recorded wins.

Greensburg competes in the Franklin Invitational Saturday, then hosts Whiteland Tuesday, May 7 for Senior Night. The Pirates will honor seniors Kaeli Fong, Bindi Patel and Ella Westhafer.
