North track teams thrive against Royals

Greensburg — The North Decatur track and field teams hosted a dual meet Thursday against Eastern Hancock.

The visiting Royals won on both the boys and girls side. The Lady Royals won 91-32, while the Royal boys won 90-33.

North senior Jenna Meyer led the Lady Chargers by winning both the shot put and discus. Her shot put of 34-03 is nearly back to her school record form of 35-05.75 from last season. Meyer also won the discus throw with a mark of 95-00.

North freshman Megan Hoover produced a most impressive showing in only her second meet as a freshman, according to coach Mark Burry. She won the 1600-meter run in a hotly contested race in 5:38.00. Burry said this time is only three seconds from the school record of 5:35. She also ran an excellent 800-meter run in 2:38.75 and was just edged out by Schrope of Eastern Hancock.

Baili Ewing also added a win in the long jump (13-9.75).

Katie Stevens finished second in the 100-meter dash (14:02).

Kaylee Rosenbach took third in the 100 hurdles (20:02) and third in the high jump (4-04).

Emily Kissel finished third in the 400 dash (1:16.49).

Carmen Zavala finished third in the 200 (30.31) and third in the long jump (13-0).

Emily Scott finished third in the 3200 (19.36).

The North 4x800 relay team took second in 13:25, while the North girls 4x400 was second in 4:59.81.

Nielson leads Charger boys

Two Charger boys tallied first-place performances for North. Kevin Nielson led the boys by winning the 300-meter hurdles in a time of 46.95. He also finished second in the 110-meter hurdles (19.43), and third in the high jump (5-06).

Eric Moorman won the 3200 in 11:41. He also placed second in the 1600 (5:18).

Senior Nick Gehrich finished second in the discus with a throw of 111-05.

Curtis Hillebrand finished second in the 400, clocking a 59.87.

Other placers were:

The North 4x800 relay won with a time of 9:59. The 4x400 was second in 4:20.09.

Derek Hocker finished third in the 110-meter hurdles (19.88) and third in the long jump (17-01).

Brady Holloway finished third in the 1600 (5:20) and third in the 800 (2:28).

Gage Acton took third in the 3200 (13:19).

The Chargers host Morristown and the Oldenburg Academy tonight (Tuesday) and the Charger Invitational with Knightstown, Milan, South Decatur, Tri High, and Waldron next Friday night.
