Greensburg — The Greensburg boys basketball team celebrated the historical and storied careers of nine seniors Wednesday night.

Dressing for the final regular season home game of their careers were Bryce Bennett, Riley Burkert, Tye Fleetwood, Macy Holdsworth, Tom Lawrence, Bryant McIntosh, Collin Rigney, Sean Sellers and Brad Wilson.

The Pirates defeated visiting South Ripley 64-47 to elevate its record to 20-1 with one game remaining. Greensburg has clinched three straight 20-win seasons, and appropriately reached the mark on a night reserved for the senior class.

The Pirates clashed with a Raider squad well-prepared for the top-ranked team in Class 3A. Greensburg led 20-15 after the first quarter, but the visitors tied the game at 22-all in the second quarter.

Greensburg carried a 34-28 halftime lead as the Raiders held an explosive Pirate offense in check.

After playing the Pirates even in the third quarter, matching the hosts 11-11, Greensburg broke out in the final eight minutes with 12 points in a four-minute span.

Sellers led all scorers with 22 points, reaching the 1,700-point milestone in the third quarter. Junior Ryan Welage followed with 14 points in a physical battle under the basket, and McIntosh scored 12. Fleetwood had five points at halftime and finished with seven, Lawrence scored five and Holdsworth chipped in four.

Greensburg shot 8-for-14 (57 percent) from the foul line.

The Pirate junior varsity squad improved to 17-1 with a 45-26 win. Drew Foster led his team with 12 points. Keegan McCullough scored nine, while Chandler Deaton scored eight. Peyton Buening added five points and Tommy Carey scored four. Alex Pokrzywinski followed with three, while Kevin Beaver and Spencer Burkert chipped in two apiece. The JV Pirates shot 5-for-8 from the foul line.
