Honors await State Champs next week
The state-champion Greensburg boys basketball team will be recognized in a special ceremony at City Hall Monday, April 1, during the monthly Greensburg Common Council meeting, according to Greensburg Athletic Director Bill Edwards. That meeting begins at 7 p.m.
Two days later, Wednesday, April 3, the victorious Pirates will be honored with a parade around the city that will lead into a community championship celebration in the GCHS gymnasium.
The next day, at 7:30 a.m. April 4, the boys will be honored in the Governor’s Office at the Statehouse in Indianapolis.
North baseball opener cancelled
The North Decatur baseball team’s season opener against Oldenburg Academy Monday was cancelled because of inclement weather.
The Chargers will open their season at home against Cambridge City Lincoln Thursday, April 4 at 4:30 p.m.
The junior varsity team's season opener Saturday at home against Indianapolis Kings Homeschool, at 11 a.m., has been cancelled.
Pirate baseball opener postponed
The Greensburg baseball season opener scheduled for Tuesday, April 2 at Madison, has been postponed because of the basketball team’s State tournament run.
No makeup date has been set.
Spring sports begins Tuesday
Decatur County sports teams will officially begin spring competition Tuesday, April 2.
Some teams will begin play Saturday, as the South Decatur baseball team visits Union County at 10 a.m. The South track and field squads open against visiting Morristown at 4:30 p.m. to start next week, then host North Decatur and Rushville Tuesday at 4:45 p.m.
