The North Decatur varsity baseball team fell to visiting Brown County 21-6 Tuesday afternoon, despite leading most of the game.
The Chargers took a 6-5 lead into the fifth inning, but the Eagles scored 16 runs off three pitchers to claim the victory.
“Our kids are trying hard,” said head coach Gary Brown. “Our pitchers are working hard. We’re just not where we need to be yet.”
North (0-4) surrendered 14 walks to Brown County.
“If we can get runners on base, we can play our game,” said Brown. “If we can cut down on our walks, our fielders will be less likely to commit errors and give up at-bats.”
Senior Jason Kirchhoff led North with two runs batted in on a single and a triple. He scored twice. Senior Mitch Knecht went 2-for-3 with a triple and two runs. SEnior Kevin Geis went 2-for-3 with a triple and a run batted in.
Donovan Meyer went 2-for-3 with a double and a run, while Seth Gauck went 2-for-3 with a double. Will Jarman added a sacrifice and Dustin Westerfeld chipped in a walk.
North visits Batesville Thursday.
